As some of you know, one of our trainers “really enjoys” running…… and is now set a new goal for 2017 that he wanted to share with you all.
It’s called the Big Red Run and it’s essentially a 250km multi (6) day event (24th to 29th June 2017) through the stunning Simpson Desert starting and finishing at the famous Birdsville Hotel Queensland. It’s one of Australia’s only multi day running events of this kind with around 70 entrants annually including a diverse range of participants. Finish times for elites from past years will be in the low 20 hours with the final person across the line (and absolutely still a winner) coming in around 60 hours.
The course changes to some degree every year and it covers many unchartered areas of the desert which makes it really special in my mind. Its logistically an extremely challenging event for organisers and participants. Itinerary for 2017 as follows.
Day 1: 42.195km Birdsville Marathon
Day2: 42.195km Adria Marathon
Day3: 42.195km Arpilindika Marathon
Day4: 31km Sprigg sprint
Day 5: 84.39km Mohan Marathon and Roseberth Marathon
Day 6: Untimed 8km jog into Birdsville Pub!
Check out the Big Red Run webpage for some of the details/photos but this is huge for Rob and will challenge him more than any of the other Ultra events.
One of the ways he will be doing this is by raising funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) through everyday hero. Big Red Run is dedicated to improving quality of life for persons effected and ultimately finding a cure and together it’s hoped that we can collectively make a real difference.
We under know that most people don’t understand wanting to run 250km in a desert, but we also understand most people recognise a good cause when they see it and that’s where you can help me.
Be great to have you along for Robs journey. we will beproviding updates as the event nears.
Please help Rob help others by donating whatever you can using the hyperlink below and ‘Give Now’ button, however large or small is sincerely appreciated. The more people that know about JDRF Australia, the greater their impact, so please feel free to use your social and professional networks to spread the word by sharing my page and this message with your friends, family and colleagues. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
